Moving Interstate Quotes

A price guide for your interstate move:

We are often asked for a 'rough quote' or 'price guidance' for interstate container moving. It is difficult to give an accurate estimation of price because often, very similar projects will have quite different requirements and that will result in a significant difference in price.

An example would be two interstate container removals jobs, both going from the same suburb in Melbourne to Perth. The first is going to South Perth which is 18km from the rail terminal. The 2nd is going to Rockingham which is 55km from the rail terminal. You might think that the overall difference in distance is tiny given that we have transported the containers all the way from Melbourne to Perth but the difference is price would actually be about $200 - about 5% of the overall price for the interstate container removal. The reason is that the bulk of the distance is by rail which has a low cost per km. From the rail terminal to the final delivery location in Perth, we have to use a truck. Trucks have a relatively high cost per km and we also have to send the truck out and back twice.

Another thing you may notice below is that the cost to move to Perth from Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide is much more that moving from Perth to any of these destinations. The reason is that the rail rates going to Perth are much higher than going out of Perth. This is due to Perth, Western Australia being a net importer of goods from New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia - so the trains are full going in to Perth and empty on the return trip.
